Why Mercado Bitcoin and Stellar Will Explore A Brazilian CBDC

La iniciativa es va desplegar en associació amb altres institucions brasileres. Té l'objectiu d'explorar el llançament i els casos d'ús d'una moneda digital del banc central (CBDC).
The Stellar Development Foundation will work with Mercado Bitcoin, ClearSale, and CPQD. These partners comprised a LIFT Challenge consortium.
Segons el comunicat, el Laboratori d'Innovacions Financeres i Tecnològiques del Desafiament Real Digital (LIFT) funciona com un entorn de col·laboració per desenvolupar el Real Digital, el CBDC del Brasil.
El projecte identificarà la viabilitat tecnològica, els casos d'ús i la infraestructura necessària per llançar el Real Digital. La iniciativa també té com a objectiu millorar el sistema financer del Brasil atraient participants del mercat, bancs, entitats de pagament, empreses tecnològiques i altres.
Aquestes entitats s'encarregaran de desenvolupar productes amb el Real Digital com a base. El Banc Central del Brasil afirma que la seva CBDC es desplegarà durant la segona meitat del 2022 amb una primera fase "pilotat per a un públic restringit", afirma el comunicat.
Reinaldo Rabelo, CEO of Mercado Bitcoin, said the following about the initiative:
Estem en un consorci d'empreses que tenen l'estructura i l'ambició de construir solucions sòlides per al mercat financer mitjançant la tecnologia blockchain. L'ús de la xarxa Stellar ens permetrà lliurar un cas complet per a l'avaluació del Banc Central.
El SDF té treballat amb el govern ucraïnès al seu CBDC durant diversos anys. L'organització sense ànim de lucre i els seus socis estaven decidits a provar les capacitats programables de la CBDC, però hi ha hagut una manca d'actualitzacions sobre el projecte.
Why Mercado Bitcoin Chose Stellar As A Partner?
Similar to the Ukrainian CBDC, the Real Digital will be launched to advance innovation of payment and make the Brazilian financial system more open and inclusive. Denelle Dixon, CEO of the Stellar Development Foundation, claimed the cooperation with Mercado Bitcoin will contribute to the growth of the network.

Stellar’s network is prepared to support Mercado Bitcoin and the Central Bank of Brazil as they explore use cases for the Real Digital’s future. Stellar was designed for asset issuance, and its built-in compliance tools give Mercado Bitcoin a strong foundation to develop a solution with the features that Bacen expects to see.
Mercat Bitcoin selected the Stellar network for its capabilities and because they believe it is “excellent for implementing tokenization and payment projects”. The network is capable of processing fast and low-cost transactions, it allows financial institutions to implement their own KYC policies, it is deemed non “energy-intensive” and more.
